What is The University of Ruined Strawberries?
Travel and Education Through Experience
The
University of Ruined Strawberries is a unique semester abroad, which will be filmed
and made into a documentary. This will be an academic world tour where
8 former Chicago Public School students will learn through travel and application of
knowledge from the best professors in the respective field of their
major.
Equality in Education
Change
in educational policy cannot occur unless we change the mindset of how
education is distributed in our country and show that all children
deserve the right to an equal education. Simply telling people will not
work, they need to meet my students and after meeting them, they will
see that the recycled stereotypes of urban youth are simply fiction and
that there should be no disparity in education due to race or
socio-economics.
Finding Solutions
In
addition to the footage from the trip and meeting our professors, we
will insert brief vignettes from teachers and students across the
country to voice their solutions to the current educational crisis. The
teachers and the students are those who are swimming in the murk of the
darkest hour of education our country has faced and we want to hear
their solutions. |
